Alfredo Litulumar Saures was disqualified from running a seat for Precinct 3 in the House of Representatives under the Republican Party, while Geraldine Demapan Sebaklim withdrew her candidacy for a seat in the Saipan Municipal Council.

In response to Saipan Tribune’s inquiries, Commonwealth Election Commission executive director Kayla S. Igitol disclosed yesterday that the board disqualified Saures for failing to meet all the qualifications to run in the Nov. 8 general election.

Igitol said they did not receive an appeal from Saures about CEC’s challenge to his candidacy.

She said the board did not need to hold a hearing because Saures did not meet the qualifications to be certified.

With Saures out from the race, this brings down to 13 candidates battling for six seats in the House Precinct 3. The Republican Party has five candidates, the Democratic Party has three, and five are running as independent.

With respect to Sebaklim, Igitol said Sebaklim withdrew her candidacy for medical reasons.

With Sebaklim’s withdrawal, this leaves seven candidates competing for three positions in the Saipan Municipal Council.

The municipal council seat is non-partisan.

Igitol and CEC board chair Jesus I. Sablan signed Friday a resolution certifying the six gubernatorial candidates and 93 other candidates for meeting the requirement of law to be placed on the ballot for the general election.
