The 2nd Annual Saipan Centennial Lions Basketball League playoffs have been suspended indefinitely as Typhoon Mawar draws closer to the CNMI.

Commissioner Sonny Ebuen said due to the approaching typhoon they have no choice but to reschedule the games. The league is being played at the outdoor Civic Center Basketball Court.

Last Saturday, the masters division games between Ol’Aces and Pepoy’s Cafe & Restaurant and Blue Haus and Double A Corp. were rained out. The first game between Ol’Aces and Pepoy’s did start and was a quarter away from finishing when the clouds opened up.

The masters postseason got going last Friday with No. 1 seed A’s Car Air Conditioning blasting No. 8 RNV Construction in the first game, 76-62, and No. 4 Blue Eagle/Royal Pacific exacting a 95-62 dismantling of JSN Enterprises in the second game.

The playoffs of the open division was supposed to start with the quarterfinals last night with top seed Martech-Ol’Aces taking on eighth seed K2 Ballerz in the 6pm first game.

It was to be followed by the match between fourth seed Ali’i and fifth seed The Game at 7:30pm.

The other quarterfinals matchups tonight were supposed to pit second seed New Changming Market against seventh seed JTM Saipan and third seed Puerto Rico Bento versus sixth seed Susan’s Catering.

Ebuen said the remaining games of the masters division playoffs will resume after Typhoon Mawar leaves the CNMI’s area of responsibility. Same goes with the start of the playoffs of the open division.
