Nat’l hoops program pre-tryout meeting this Saturday

The Northern Mariana Islands Basketball Federation is holding a pre-tryout meeting for those interested to be part of the senior national basketball program this Saturday, Jan. 6, at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

Meeting for those interested to be a part of the women’s team is from 9am-10am, and for men it’s from 10am to 11am.

Tryouts for the teams are set for Jan. 9-13. The Top 20 or 15 players will be selected after the tryouts.

Players selected will make up the teams that will compete in the 2024 Micronesian Games from June 15-24 in the Marshall Islands.

From Jan. 16 to March 31, the pre-season training will commence and will be focused on team plays along with conditioning and skills. A roster of 12 or 15 players will be announced on March 2.

Then, tentatively from April 4-7, the players will see action in the University of Guam Friendship Tournament in Guam. After, the players will undergo a three-month on-season training phase from April 8 to June 14.

The selection of the 12-man roster will be held on May 25. From the beginning of the tryouts, the teams have a total of five months to prepare for the Micronesian Games.
