The Commonwealth Utilities Corporation assures its customers this week that traffic is moving on Beach Road. The community utility is improving environmental protection projects along the scenic drive.

According to CUC Executive Director Timothy P. Villagomez, negotiations to ease traffic congestion has been completed. To ensure that customers are now satisfied, utility staff tested the new construction schedule for seven days prior to this release.

The utility ordered the contractor to make sure that two lanes of traffic are open at all times during the day. At sunset, workers will be allowed to use one lane of traffic for construction.

“(I)n order to achieve successful negotiations for everyone, we considered various goals. Tourists and motorist need to drive through the Beach Road area without delays. The contractor is trying to maintain a construction schedule that will benefit everyone,” Villagomez said.

The utility firm hired Western Equipment to build a new waste water collection or pollution control system along the road from the Microl intersection area to Garapan.

When completed hundreds of customers and large businesses that now use septic tanks will connect to the local utility, saving hundreds of dollars each month.

Waste Water Control Manager Lorraine Babauta underscored the importance of the project, saying, “Saipan depends on the beauty of its western shore and lagoon. Large business sell its environmental virtue, and this means that everyone depends on our employees to protect this natural wonder for our children and the future generation.”

To maintain ultimate safety during the construction period, heavy equipment (all dump truck, trailers, buses, etc.) must use an alternate route while the construction proceeds from the China House Restaurant to the Cabrera Center.
