Workforce training opportunities at NMC
The Workforce Development Program, formerly known as the Human Resource Training Office, is a unit under the division of Continuing Education at Northern Marianas College. This department is charged with the responsibility of coordinating and providing various government training courses and offers a broad range of certificate and short-term career-related training programs.
To ensure program effectiveness, evaluations and assessments of training needs are conducted throughout the year by collaborative efforts between various training personnel in the CNMI Government, Northern Marianas College and the feedback collected from program participants.
The training course schedules of the Workforce Development Program are published three times annually during the Fall, Spring, and Summer terms.
The types of course offered this Fall semester include general interests workshops in Shorthand, Governmental Accounting, Time Management, Mastering Performance Reviews, Effective Report Writing, Statistics, Telephone Etiquette and many others. In addition, the NMC Workforce Development Program will also be offering this Fall semester a computer-related short-term courses.
CNMI government employees and other individuals interested in upgrading their workplace skills may enroll in such computer classes such as the Basics to IBM PC, Intro to Windows 98, Microsoft Office 2000, Intro to Excel 2000, Web Page Creation, PowerPoint 2000, and Microsoft Word to name a few.
Moreover, Customized Contract Training is also a major function of the Workforce Development Program at NMC. Through this training option, government agencies and private businesses requiring specific training are given customized assistance by the Workforce Development staff, in conjunction with appropriate academic departments of the College.
With all these training options and flexibility being offered, the Workforce Development Program stands ready to help increase competitive advantage by upgrading work skills.
