The Commonwealth Health Center Hemodialyis Unit has in its ward four brand new 29-inch television sets and one VCR courtesy of Tan Holdings Corporation, a long time corporate supporter of the local hospital’s needs.

Tan Holdings Corporation President Willie Tan presented yesterday the donations to Health Secretary Joseph Kevin Villagomez and members of the CHC Volunteers’ Association.

The volunteers have been instrumental in the acquisition of the new items as the group spearheaded the drive to assist the hemodialysis patients of the hospital.

During a ceremony held at the hospital yesterday, CHC Volunteers’ Association members expressed gratitude to Mr. Tan for his valuable contributions.

“We extend our heartfelt thanks also to the wonderful staff and management of THC for remembering the needs of the patients at the hospital. Without the tiring assistance of the people in our community, the volunteers would not have been able to provide much of the donations it has made thus far,” said the group.

“Corporate social responsibility has been identified as a crucial issue by many companies and THC is one of them. We want to make a vital contribution in Micronesia and to achieve sustainable development–along with economic growth–we hold corporate social responsibility as a key component for the territory’s sustainable future,” said Mr. Tan.

Having been involved with so many worthy projects for years, the THC president said he hopes the donations will “encourage and further trends of increasing awareness about corporate social responsibility as a mutual concern of one and all companies.”

He said THC believes that if its people are in distress or in need, the company should be able to take care of them. “Thus, anything that will improve the lives of THC’s most valued stakeholders, the corporation has vowed to be at the forefront to extend the proper support and infrastructure for growth and development.”

According to Mr. Tan, THC looks forward to partnering with the local health center in the future for more projects in efforts to build new and lasting alliances between citizens, as well as the business and government sectors.

“It is only through cooperation between these sectors that we can make a corporate social responsibility a reality,” Mr. Tan said.
