2 men nabbed for bribery
A Bureau of Environmental Health employee turned in two Chinese males to authorities Tuesday for allegations that they tried to bribe a health official into issuing them food handlers’ certificates.
Police reports said Chinese nationals Zhao Lin, 35 and Chen De Yu, 44, did not deserve the certificates since they failed the food handlers test administered by BEH at the Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe that morning.
BEH Health Trainer Jess Rabauliman called for police assistance when the two men allegedly approached him with a $20-bill while gesturing at the certificate.
The suspects were supposed to return for another recertification exam but apparently decided to take a shot at an easier and quicker way to obtain the health certificates.
Police said that the pair even took out a $50-bill and flashed it at Mr. Rabauliman in an attempt to entice the BEH employee into granting them the permits.
Mr. Rabauliman then asked the suspects to stay where they were and that he was going to get back to them.
But the witness instead called authorities to the scene. Minutes later, police arrived and arrested the suspects on charges of bribery. (MM)
