March is Red Cross Month

Citing significant contributions of the Red Cross CNMI Chapter to the community, Lt. Gov. Jesus R. Sablan yesterday signed a proclamation endorsing March as the Red Cross Month.

Citing significant contributions of the Red Cross CNMI Chapter to the community, Lt. Gov. Jesus R. Sablan yesterday signed a proclamation endorsing March as the Red Cross Month.

In a simple ceremony attended by former and present officials of the Red Cross, Mr. Sablan urged the community to support ongoing projects of the organization and its dedicated volunteers.

March has been designated Red Cross Month by a US Presidential Proclamation to celebrate the achievement of the organization in the services it tirelessly provides to communities throughout the nation.

The American Red Cross has served the community by providing lifesaving information, training and disaster relief to individuals and families affected by personal emergencies and disasters.

It has trained thousands of individuals in the CNMI to gain essential lifesaving skills through First Aid, CPR, and Lifeguard training, and provided HIV/AIDS prevention education and disaster preparedness information, saving untold number of lives.

Mr. Sablan said Red Cross willingly helps families prepare for a disaster and meet the immediate needs of individuals affected by disaster and a leading voluntary agency training families in various areas of community service.

Red Cross has geared up its various community services including the holding of seminars on Automated External Desibrolator training, volunteer works, HIV prevention among others.

At present, the NMI chapter has an estimated 250 volunteers, and working with the state-of-the-art AED. The US Congress has mandated all government department to be equipped with the AED in case of cardiac emergency. (EGA)
