14 moving on to Battle of the Voices finale
After the semifinal round of the Music Performing Arts Competition Corp.’s Battle of the Voices, 14 individuals will be moving to the final round, which will take place on Nov. 25, 2023, from 1pm to 6pm, at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe.
In the semifinal round last Saturday at the Gov. Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center, a total of 10 contestants were eliminated and contestants Lorenzy Leo, Sebastian Tajibmai, Dwayne Castro, Donovan Castro, Raniel Santos, Dean Borja, Arriane Antonio, Azenith Madelo-Avila, Jessel Antonio, Zoe Stephanson, Bernice Sabino, Rhobby Murillo, Donato Santiago, and Ronilo de Belen will be moving on to the next round.
One of the contestants, Santiago, who not only showed agility in his vocals but also confidence in performing, said he motivates himself by telling himself to “just have fun, and enjoy. Don’t think so much.”
Antonio’s rendition of Christina Aguilera’s The Voice Within brought an empowerment message to the contest. “It’s important to be yourself, so if you do have some kind of talent that deserves to be seen then you must showcase it, regardless of how the outcome may be.”
For first cousins Donovan and Dwayne Castro, proceeding to the next round of the competition together was something they were both excited about. Dwayne said “We’ve been doing this since forever. I don’t see him as a rival. I feel like it’s all good and fun. We keep it light.”
Donovan added, “I told him from the very beginning, regardless of the outcome, we really want to support MPACC…”
Both agreed that the opportunity was a great way to showcase the many talents in the CNMI. “So, we want to say to the community out there, please come out and support, because this is a chance for us to showcase what we have,” said Donovan
About the moments before the announcement was made, Dwayne said, “The anticipation before is a lot, but at the end it’s all worthwhile. I’m good. I’m nervous but I’m glad I got it over.” Dwayne added to Donovan “And I’m glad I’m going to the next round with you, my brother, not competing or anything, but let’s have fun with this.”
The cousins thanked their supporters, especially those who took time to make it to the event that day.
“We’d like to dedicate this move to them, to the family, especially those in the [United] States that are watching on Facebook,” said Donovan.
MPACC’s Arlene Reyes said the judges had their work cut out for them but she believes the contestants who made it deserve it.
“Congratulations to all the contestants. Each and every one of you are all winners,” she said
Reyes said the MPACC plans to hold this competition again next year. “This is our first year. This is going to be an annual competition.”
