16 teams sign up for Rocball League

Saipan’s Rocball League will open its second competition this year with 16 teams made up of students from Marianas High School signing up for the contest.

Dream Team leads the list of participants and will be joined by Red Eyes, Namacki, Asian & White Boys, Bang Bang Coconut Gang, Question?, Mwas, G.O.M.D., Rookies, Fan Chance, Oba Squirt, Oba Wetz, Super 8, Islanders, Black Magic, and Krew.

A series of practice matches will be played starting today to give squads time to prepare for this year’s competition. Scrimmages will begin at 1pm and each match will only be played for two sets with the first team to either score 12 points or a goal winning the set. In case of an overtime, the extension will only be a race-to-6 points or the first team to hit a goal wins the do-or-die OT.

Today, Dream Team takes on Red Eyes, while Namacki challenges Asian & White Guys in the second match. Other pair of matches set this weekend are Bang Bang Coconut Gang vs. Question and Mwas vs. G.O.M.D. on Feb 24; Rookies vs. Fan Chance and Oba Squirt vs. Oba Wetz on Feb. 25; and Super 8 vs. Islanders and Black Magic vs. Krew on Feb. 27.

The Teachers ruled the first competition of the league this season, outlasting the Veterans in a best-of-five title series, 3-2.
