Twenty-eight squads are battling for 12 semis berths in tomorrow’s 3rd Annual HANMI Go-Kart Race at the Mariana Resort Seaside Circuit.
“We have 28 teams and since last Monday, they’ve been competing in trial runs. After the trials, the Top 10 will advance to the semifinals, along with the two wild card entries,” go-kart race chair Palik Thomson said in an interview with Saipan Tribune yesterday.
The semifinals will start at 9am after the 8pm opening ceremony.
“We’re inviting the public to come out and watch these exciting races and other activities this Saturday at the Mariana Resort,” Thomson added.
Besides the go-kart tournament, Mariana Resort is also hosting a carnival this Saturday and golf tournament on Sunday in celebration of its 37th anniversary.
The golf tournament has so far lured 130 players, according to Palik, and deadline for registration is today. Hole-in-one prizes and other cash prizes await winners of the weekend tournament that has a two-person scramble format.
The carnival, on the other hand, has drawn support from private companies and community groups, which will operate food/drinks and game booths. Boots will be open from 10am to 6pm. Proceeds from the carnival will be donated to the Saipan Little League Baseball, Inc, which is also the beneficiary of the golf fundraising tournament.
“We would like to express our gratitude to all the groups and companies participating in the carnival. We would also like to thank our donors for the golf and go-kart tournament. We will have a busy weekend and we hope everyone will have fun,” Palik said.
