3 casino commissioners set to discuss IPI’s bankruptcy petition

The remaining three Commonwealth Casino Commission commissioners are expected to discuss tomorrow, Thursday, an update of the Imperial Pacific International (CNMI) LLC’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy petition.

CCC board chair Edward C. DeLeon Guerrero set yesterday their regular monthly meeting for tomorrow at 10:30am in the Commission’s conference room at the Springs Plaza in Gualo Rai.

DeLeon Guerrero, vice chair Rafael S. Demapan, and commissioner Mariano Taitano are set to discuss under old business agenda IPI’s bankruptcy filing.

Part of the meeting’s agenda is an executive session, in which the commissioners are also going to consult with their legal counsel about IPI’s Chapter 11 (reorganization) and Chapter 7 (liquidation).

In response to Saipan Tribune’s inquiry, Demapan said yesterday that although there are no commissioners representing Tinian and Rota, with three commissioners representing Saipan constitute a quorum.

The terms of commissioners Ramon M. Dela Cruz of Tinian and Martin Mendiola of Rota, expired last April 30. As of yesterday, Gov. Arnold I. Palacios has yet to nominate new commissioners from Tinian and Rota.

Under the meeting’s new business, the commissioners are also going to talk about Sen. Jude U. Hofschneider’s (R-Tinian) Senate Local Bill No. 23-05, which seeks to grant internet gaming licenses on Tinian for a period not to exceed 20 years.

The legislation proposes to amend the Commonwealth Code to provide for regulatorily compliant internet gaming.
