38 Mitsubachi brings Japanese soufflé pancakes to Saipan

Japanese soufflé pancake restaurant 38 Mitsubachi opened its first location in Micronesia at the back of Lollipops in Garapan last March 8.

“Our concept is to deliver the ultimate soufflé pancake as a dish of utmost perfection, offering egg-based sweets that bring happiness and richness to your senses,” said 38 Mitsubachi Saipan general manager Emi Okazaki.

She said 38 Mitsubachi expanded to Saipan because of the historical and cultural connections between the island and Japan.

“Given the historically strong connection between Saipan and Japan, we have chosen Saipan to serve as a bridge between the two, aiming to embody that bond.”

As for the name, Okazaki said 38 is an angel number, symbolizing the enrichment of life through quality time spent with loved ones and the enhancement of financial prosperity. Mitsubachi, meanwhile, is a pun on the word bee.

“It is our wish that by enjoying our 38 Bee’s Soufflé Pancake, all the people of Saipan and visitors to Saipan can feel happiness and abundance. The name ’38 Bee’ is derived from the honey obtained from Japanese bees, combining the number 38 with the concept of angel numbers.”

As for how the local dining community has welcomed 38 Mitsubachi, Okazaki said they feel they belong since all their soufflé pancakes have all been smash hits.

She said their Soufflé Pancakes of Happiness can make everyone feel truly happy when enjoyed with their special maple cream. Seasonal fruits also add a touch of elegance to the soufflé pancakes.

Okazaki added that all their soufflé pancakes are made with only essential ingredients such as eggs, flour, milk, and butter, and meticulously crafted for over 30 minutes.

As for promotions, 38 Mitsubachi is currently giving away a complimentary coffee or tea voucher for each order of soufflé pancake. The coffee or tea voucher is redeemable on their next visit.

Aside from their soft-opening on March 8, 38 Mitsubachi also currently has a booth at the 25th Annual Taste of The Marianas International Food Festival held every Saturday in May at American Memorial Park.

38 Mitsubachi, located along Bougainvillea Avenue in Garapan, is open from Tuesday to Sunday, 10am-6pm, with last order at 5:15pm. After the grand opening, they plan to extend their operating hours and include a pasta lunch menu. It can accommodate 95 dine-in customers that includes indoor and terrace seating.
