Smoke Pub Magic 8 Ball tries to keep its hold of the top ranking when the 2014 Saipan Billiards Association Budwweiser Open 8-Ball Thursday league enters its final two weeks.
The Magic 8 Ball escaped with an 8-7 win over the Route33 Armatech Hustlers—its chief rival for the Thursday division crown. The win improved the Smoke Pub-backed squad’s record to 110-70 and in the process kept the Route33 side in second place with a 104-76 card.
The Hustlers, with their title hopes slowly slipping away, are also not safe at second, as the Jokers Homeboyz are breathing down their necks, just four wins behind at third (100-80). The Homeboyz’ upped their record to 100-80 after a 10-5 drubbing of the cellar dwelling Team SCS (57-123).
In other results last week, the Poseidon Titans (95-85) and National Alamo Car Rental (93-87) scored similar 10-5 wins over the lowly Barcode Breakers (65-115) and Wild Bill’s (96-84), respectively.
Meanwhile, the Saipan TV Hustlers are hoping to match the Magic 8 Ball’s feat in the Tuesday league.
The Hustlers completed a 9-6 decision over the Jonnys Crazy 8 for a 117-63 record or a four-game lead over the Jokers IT&E Voyagers, who hold a 113-67 mark.
At close third are the Jokers Str8 Shooters, improving to a 111-69 following a 10-5 trouncing of the Voyagers. Smoke Pub Sang&D’Gang was merciless against sister team Lancheras, 14-1, in the other Tuesday league match. The Crazy 8 (93-87), Sang&D’Gang (77-103) and Lancheras (29-151) complete the standings.
