Tid bits from both sides of the Pacific

I understand that an alleged expert on Covenant issues was found briefing Mr. Edward Cohen and the US delegation on Covenant matters.

I understand that an alleged expert on Covenant issues was found briefing Mr. Edward Cohen and the US delegation on Covenant matters.

Eh, not surprising a volunteer work and I sincerely hope he doesn’t sell the NMI as Interior’s live bait. I’ve never been impressed with this individual for his agility in flip-floppin` or somersaulting on issues.

If there’s anyone whose advice must be sought for consultation on the Covenant, it would have to be Howard Willens who guided the work of the former Marianas Political Status Commission and still follows developments as they relate to NMI/federal relations.

If you will, the NMI can do without alleged authorities on Covenant issues who refuse to acknowledge that they know that they know not. Must steer clear from the “Confused Factory”. It doesn’t promote intellectual development nor generate pennies for our fast depleting local coffers.

“It takes a village to educate an idiot”. This was written on a piece of card board hoisted high in the air in Oregon when First Lady Hilary Clinton visited last November to rally up support for democratic candidates running for Congress. Thought that was very disrespectful for a steely woman who stood by her man in his protracted months of self-inflicted grief. I was troubled by such expression.

But then, Suzanne Fields of the Washington Times, recently wrote and interesting assessment that comes close to confirming the message on the placard: The “Clintons have to draw down $375,000 from their `blind trust` to pay for the president’s decade-old indiscretion. Such a “huge withdrawal from personal funds — most of which was earned by Hilary, who was responsible for the major source of the couple’s earnings before they came to Washington — ‘no doubt hurts a lot’.” The other $475,000 paid to Paula Jones was issued by an insurance company.

“What’s surprising is that the president thought it politically prudent to pay it off with Hilary’s money rather than with loans or gifts from wealthy friends and supporters. Speculation has it that he wanted to save his own money and money accumulated in his defense funds should go for lawyers only.

“This sordid chapter in the Clinton saga has been about sex, power and money. It has a twist not always present in such stories. Women have been at the controls. Paula got money that Hilary earned. Monica’s love thong humiliated the most powerful man in the world. Linda persuaded Monica to save the dress that saved her reputation from misrepresentation.

“Modern feminists campaigned for equality in sexual relations, political power, and income, but these women gained the upper hand in traditional ways. Hilary stands by her man. Monica seduces her man. Linda gets her man.” Well, it’s Hilary who is the ultimate loser in this rather strange arrangement. I suppose we will never understand her tolerance level at this point.

But I like Ms. Field’s rhythmic assessment of this sordid event: “Hilary stands by her man. Monica seduces her man. Linda gets her man”. Wow, good stuff, eh? It’s all about the man and his billy goat attitude, except he used the power of his office to charm his victims. Is this what they call abuse of authority?

A friend asked what’s the semen called that was found on Monica Lewinsky’s dress. I said “beats me, partner”. With a grin of his face he declared “It’s called Presidue!” Well, let’s see if Dr. Webster would include that in his dictionary. Gee, the president has become fodder for talk shows and comedy the world over. I have to agree that his trial isn’t about sex, but perjury.

Questions from legal eagles whether it rises to the level of an impeachable offense is good fancy footing. But it doesn’t change the fact that he lied and must be made accountable for it. It’s both a moral and legal obligation that he admits it so to clear the air once and for all.
