Board votes on NMC VP today
The Board of Regents will name today the lone vice-president of the Northern Marianas College who will take the helm of its daily operations while President Agnes McPhetres takes care of the transition requirement.
School officials who are vying for the position include current vice-presidents Tee Abraham (for administration), Barbara Moir (for instruction), Jack Sablan (for support services) and Provost Roy Fua.
In an interview, Chairman Manuel Sablan said the board will approve the new reorganizational chart of the college which will only maintain one vice-president and four deans.
But he refused to name the most likely to succeed McPhetres among the top four NMC officials.
According to sources, the popular candidate is Jack Sablan because he is not only easy to work with but is noted for his concern for the staff and students.
However, Abraham is a strong candidate to reckon with. Her number of years leading the administration puts her in a good position to take care of its daily operations.
Sources who spoke on condition of anonymity said the Board’s vote will probably reflect the practical choice but seasoned with politics.
While the college community is awaiting for the Board’s choice, an in-house fight is reportedly brewing between the camps of Abraham and Sablan.
Meanwhile, Chairman Sablan denied reports regarding plans of the president to enjoy her accrued annual leave earlier than scheduled.
Aside from assisting officials to make the necessary transition, McPhetres will also help NMC with the accreditation preparations.
