BOE certifies 14 candidates

FOURTEEN political candidates for the Nov. 6 mid-term elections have been certified by the Board of Elections, as the deadline for filing of nominating petitions is closing in.

FOURTEEN political candidates for the Nov. 6 mid-term elections have been certified by the Board of Elections, as the deadline for filing of nominating petitions is closing in.

One of the certified candidates is incumbent Senate president Paul. A Manglona, who is seeking to retain the Rota seat for the Republican Party.

Also certified for Senate positions are Tinian Sen. David M. Cing of Democratic Party, and the Reform Party’s candidate for Saipan seat Ramon S. Guerrero.

Certified candidates for the House of Representatives’ election district 4 are Benigno M. Sablan, and Justo S. Quitugua, both Independents.

Reform Party candidates for Election District 1 are Pedro P. Castro, Pedro Taisacan Nakatsukasa, Joseph Mafnas Palacios, and Ramon DLGuerrero Diaz.

Diaz, however, withdrew his candidacy yesterday afternoon for still undisclosed reason.

Reform Party candidates for Election District 2 are Vicente Hosono Sablan, and Anicia Q. Tomokane.

The Reform Party is fielding Joaquin Terlaje Quitugua and Josephine C. DLG Mesta for election districts 3 and 4, respectively.

Certified candidate for election district 6 is incumbent Rep. Alejo M. Mendiola of the Republican Party.

Deadline for filing of nominating petitions is Sept. 22.

The Democratic Party of Saipan is set to file their nominating petitions tomorrow.

Greg Sablan, BOE executive director, reported that a total of 13,594 voters have so far registered as of Sept. 13.
