Knight elected Chamber president

Sunset Advertising president Lynn A. Knight is the new head of the Saipan Chamber of Commerce.

Knight was elected president during a well-attended general membership meeting at the Hyatt Regency Saipan.

Also elected are David Tollestrup, vice president; Joe Chiles, secretary; Mark Thomson, treasurer.

Elected to serve for two-year terms as board of directors are David Wiseman, Tony Mosely and Jay Jones. Continuing to serve for a second year of their two-year terms are Richard A. Pierce and Jim Stowall.

This year’s board encompasses a cross-section of businesses, and Knight said this will allow the Chamber to assess issues from different angles.

Said Knight: “I’m an optimist and I believe we can become prosperous once again, but we should not expect to get there easily and we should not expect a boom like we had in the late ’80s when were ‘discovered’ by the Japanese investors. Again, let’s use this time to become better employers, a more mature tourist destination and a better community as a whole. My family, my employees and I are committed to being survivors and to doing what we can to help our islands’ economy improve.”
