Did someone say 'kidnap'?
We’re beginning to see the commission of sophisticated criminal activities right here paradise. However an island, we’re not immune to activities of organized crime from nearby Asian countries from the Yakuza, the Triad and sophisticated drug and labor rings, among others.
It is mind numbing and perhaps it is high time that we seek the assistance of appropriate federal agencies in a joint effort to slam the brakes of organized crime here.
I can’t fathom the recent kidnap attempt of a young innocent pupil whose wealthy parents are opened to ransom. Thanks to the kid’s reflex to head into class and tell his teacher of a stranger in mask and a woman he’s never even met before. It’s a high level crime that is puzzling in the sense that this is the first time we’ve heard of a kidnap attempt. Imagine the nightmare the parents must endure had kidnappers successfully abducted the kid.
Obviously, this failed kidnap attempt is a message that paradise isn’t as safe “as we know it”. The long tentacles of organized crime has set foot here since 20 years ago, only this time others have entered the shores of paradise to flex their muscles. I sincerely hope that DPS and pertinent federal law enforcement agencies can jointly combat the obvious need to weed these isles of bad criminal elements. Imagine a run-away situation where the fangs and tentacles of organized crime have successfully gained influence in local government. Think about it.
Practicing what we preach vs. criminals
It’s bothersome that we require of all job applicants that they submit police clearance before their applications are given appropriate review. As cumbersome as such requirement may be, applicants have no choice but to secure such record for attachment on their application forms. Otherwise, their job application is trashed forthwith.
If such is required of simple folks seeking employment opportunities, it stands to reason that such requirement must equally apply to all bidders of government contracts to weed out criminals from the outset. In other words, equal application of laws must be exercised to the hilt and given even more critical scrutiny when it involves lucrative government contracts.
I’ve seen cases where semi-autonomous agencies have also seen fit to consider the application of sophisticated criminals. Such application should be rejected outright from the outset. But the agency never saw fit to require the submission of criminal records until the bidder threatened to file a lawsuit. Only when the sucker took them to court did they dig up his criminal record where the bidder was found to have been convicted of fraud in San Francisco.
I’m looking into another case that should be fodder for all. And I will not have any hesitancy insisting that such contract must be declared null and void. After all, I refuse to see criminals rewarded lucrative contracts in the sense that it is an affirmation on the part of local government to say it is perfectly fine to award hard core criminals convicted of heinous crimes. In short, I expect this semi-autonomous agency to do its homework right here and now! If this warning isn’t heeded, then I will illustrate exactly how this criminal served the role of a cow pie perched on two sticks that eventually crumbled when it dried out. Think about it!

The war for the gubernatorial race of the next millennium has begun. Prospective contenders are sizing up the rather strange political landscape. But we should be able to cross the bridge when we all get there. It’ll be interesting to see where key players dump their support right smack in the middle of a superstorm at sea.
For now, it’s the calm before the storm. Board up, it’s getting interesting, yeah?
