140 register for Tagaman triathlon

Some 140 triathletes from different countries have registered for Saturday's Tagaman Triathlon. Continental Airlines, a major sponsor of the event, is providing tickets for many of the region's top triathletes as well as giving running singlets and caps to all participants.

Each finisher will receive a Tagaman Polo shirt and volunteers will also receive Continental Airlines/Tagaman t-shirt or cap.

All volunteers are requested to report to the Hafa Adai Beach Hotel by 5:00 a.m. unless otherwise instructed.

All aid stations must be in place and set up before 5:30 a.m. as Beach Road will be closed until about 9:00 a.m. Once bikers have completed their runs, the northbound lane along Beach road will be opened but drivers should remain cautious anywhere along Beach Road between PIC and the Garapan Police Station until the Tagaman Triathlon is completed at 11:30 a.m.

DPS, Public Works, CHC and MVA staff are busy preparing for the event and will monitor it throughout the morning. Along Beach Road onto Micro Beach, the course for the triathlon has 14 aid stations provided by DFS Saipan, Athlete’s Foot, 3-S, First Hawaiian Bank, Deloitte & Touche, IT&E, Pacificare, Microl Corp., M.T.C., PCI Communications, PIC, American Red Cross, and the Hyatt Regency.

In addition to these, government agencies and private businesses, there are many residents who have offered to assist in the success of this event.

The following is the registration schedule for all triathletes participating in Tagaman:

Water and sports drinks will be available at the aid stations along the route for triathletes and snacks will be provided to volunteers.

On Sunday morning, the First Sophia Walk will begin at 8:00 a.m. in along the bike path to Grand Hotel.
