MBL LEAGUE Badtz Maru beats GTE
Badtz Maru/Sanrio handed GTE Pacifica their first defeat 87-82 last Saturday at the NMC Gym. Its the first major upset of the season.
Oscar Masga poured in 26 points converting 4 3-pointer, 2 assists, 9 rebounds, and a steal, while teammate John Guerrero pumped in 21 points, 4 3-pointer, 3-assists, one rebound, and 2 steals.
Joe Tudela played the major role, helping out in the defensive area by pulling down most of the rebounds. Badtz Maru was playing catch-up in the last three minutes of the game. Art Moses orchestrated the Badtz Maru attack and sank a 15-footer to give Badtz Maru the lead and never looked back.
GTE Pacifica on the other hand missed most of their free throws in the dying minutes of the game. GTE went 4 out of 18 shots taken. GTE Pacifica played without their coach Tony Sablan and could have been a different scenario if coach Sablan was around to lead his squad.
Badtz Maru playing coach Joe Pangelinan came ready for this game and all the magic tricks that he tried paid off. “We really need to pull this one out in order for us to make it thru the final round of the play-offs. We will try to get revenge over NMC Fakpi on our next meeting.”
Coach Pangelinan also thanked his squad for playing as a team and sank the crucial shots. Pangelinan, who is also the MBL president, was very happy with the victory since GTE Pacifica is the two-time defending champions and the number one team in the league.
GTE Pacifica team coach Tony Sablan is still confident that they will make it to the final round of the playoffs. GTE would have to defeat team Doritos and will have to face the winner of the NMC-Badtz Maru or the winners of the Lens-Old Aces matchup.
GTE Pacifica was led by Jack Palacios with 17 points and 12 rebounds while Doc Brostrom helped out Jack Palacios with 16 points, 2-assists, 1 blocked shot, 8 rebounds, and 2 steals.
Meanwhile, NMC Fakpi defeated Lens 67-59 in the curtain closer of the night at the NMC Gym.
Llyod Hartman had 22 points, 3 assists, 3 blocked shots, and 11 rebounds to lead his team while Ray Macduff contributed 12 points, 2 assists, 4 rebounds.
Lens was led by Mark Rozic with 28 points, 3 assists, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals, while George Poquiz had 12 points, 3 assists, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals in a losing cause.
