Hopwood to host CNMI-Japan exchange program

Hopwood Junior High School, for the first time, will host a delegation of 123 students from the Koshiji town in Japan through a sports and cultural exchange program aimed at fostering international friendship and camaraderie.

Hopwood Junior High School, for the first time, will host a delegation of 123 students from the Koshiji town in Japan through a sports and cultural exchange program aimed at fostering international friendship and camaraderie.

Students from Hopwood Junior High School and Japan’s Koshiji Junior High School will meet for the first time on Dec. 22, 2000 for a lineup of sports and cultural activities at the HJHS campus in Chalan Piao.

Sports activities that will be participated in by students from both schools include basketball, volleyball and soccer while cultural activities include origami, basket weaving, sidewalk painting, mwar-mwar making, cooking among others.

The Japanese delegation will be headed by the Koshiji’s town mayor , a congressman and 22 teachers.

The Japanese high school students will be welcomed in the formal island way which will be followed by an assembly. Other activities include exchange of greetings, gifts and performances.

The exchange program will also highlight an activity wherein some members of both the Japanese and CNMI delegations will plant commemorative trees.

The delegation from Japan will also visit some of Saipan’s most popular tourist spots that include the Last Command Post in Marpi where a wreath-laying ceremony will be held.
