On Benny the legal ego

When a legal eagle turns into a legal ego, it's obvious that it's time the AG's Office and the Northern Mariana Islands Bar Association take critical scrutiny of such attorneys and weed them out of the legal community.

When a legal eagle turns into a legal ego, it’s obvious that it’s time the AG’s Office and the Northern Mariana Islands Bar Association take critical scrutiny of such attorneys and weed them out of the legal community.

I have never met Mr. Masood Karimipour, NMI’s chief public defender, but the gentleman was the victim of a legal conspiracy to derail him from his legal practice. It’s embarrassingly a failed agenda that clears him of any violation of law and terms of his contract as chief public defender. I relish attorneys with leadership such as Mr. Karimipour.

Regrettably, I can’t say the same of Mr. James Benedetto, an assistant attorney general who, along with a cohort, did nothing but give prominence to a non-sensical legal issue. It boggles the mind that even as recipients of our hard-earned tax money, they have the time to engage in non-sense and vicious lawsuit that is at best, a waste of taxpayers money; at worse, an obvious disregard for accountability as, well, legal eagles.

The newsy news about Benny

Attorneys are supposed to be well trained in logic and common sense. I find it awfully despicable that Benny has spoken from both sides of his mouth demonstrating his true colors. Despite the fact that he won a case from a jury, he had the audacity to say that locals can’t be trusted! What a racist attitude!

Well, perhaps Benny ought to tell his employer (AG’s Office), the NMI Supreme Court, the NMI Superior Court and the Northern Mariana Islands Bar Association that he was sanctioned in Alaska for discovery violation. Benny, was this information disclosed in your job application for the post you now hold? Did you equally disclose such information in your application to practice law before the Supreme and Superior Courts and for membership in the NMI Bar Association?

If per chance you failed to do so, you’re in for a long cold winter in your profession in that if attorneys have been suspended for failure to disclose, i.e., sanctions, then you’re no exception either. I ask all concerns to review State of Alaska Case No. 3KN-98-577 CR given to me by an anonymous source. It may be an insignificant $250 fine, but it remains a sanction for Benny.

Furthermore, all concerns must grill Benny whatever happened to his aspiration when he ran for judgeship in Alaska. Did he win or was he rejected? I think it’s the latter. Even a former lieutenant governor from Alaska went all out against him, thus his rejection for judgeship.

Now, Benny might even want to explain parties he’s thrown where he and company watched video tapes of pending DWI cases involving Alaska natives. It was his alleged form of entertainment where there was much racist jokes and laughter about native Alaskans. This obviously led to his rejection when he ran for judge.

No wonder he had the gall to assert that locals here can’t be trusted. He even has a license plate that says “DA 2 U”. Mr. Legal Ego seems to have a serious character deficiency. If the AG’s Office, NMI Supreme and Superior Courts and the NMI Bar Association do not take any action forthwith, I will personally see to it that he’s given his “Good Riddance” papers. He definitely deserves suspension and termination ASAP. Si Yuus Maase`!
