TINIAN – A representative from the University of Maine at Presque Isle will be meeting with the members of the Tinian Municipal Scholarship Board to discuss a student exchange program with the students at Tinian High School.

“It is my strong belief as an educator that international relations are beneficial not only to the students who attend various universities throughout the world, but to the very campuses they encompass,” said Andrea Sponberg, admissions counselor at the University of Maine in a press release. “It is beneficial to the administration, staff, faculty, and other students on campus to share in the cultural exchange,” she added.

The Tinian Municipal Scholarship Board encourages students of the island-municipality to seek funds from the agency in order to augment the tuition costs.

The University of Maine at Presque Isle is one of seven autonomous campuses within the University of Maine System. It has 1400 traditional and non-traditional students and serves as a cultural and educational resource for the entire community.

Presque Isle, which is home to 10,500 people, offers opportunities from both summer and winter outdoor sports and is the primary commercial center of the region. Combining clean air, clear skies, and safe small-town life next door to the Northern Maine Woods, it also boasts blue-ribbon schools, a regional airport, and easy access to nearby Canada.

Ms. Sponberg will arrive on Tinian in January where she will also meet with officials from Tinian High School and the Tinian campus administrator of the Northern Marianas College.
