The Issue: A survey showing what needs improvement in Marianas Hospitality.

A survey recently conducted by a marketing firm made various recommendations to improve Marianas hospitality in a highly competitive market.

Uppermost is the safety of traveling women, seniors and families to paradise. We believe that a proactive program has begun to ensure the safety of tourists who visit these isles especially during the winter months or peak season.

Obviously, unbridled development has left this island–the major business center–in shambles right around the hotel district in Garapan. The revitalization plan became the victim of neglect. Guam picked it up and worked on its tourist district–Tumon Area–a place so well organized for both tourists and residents alike.

We’re victims of a “ke sera sera” planning scheme–ad hoc method–hardly capable of mustering the political resolve to work on matters that would enhance what was once our number one income earner. This grand sense of complacency has led to the subsequent closure of more than 2000 tourist-related businesses. We’re victims of our own indecisions, yet quite agile barking up all the wrong trees like there’s no tomorrow. This attitudinal deficiency must stop right here and now!

Beautification of these isles is a must in order to boast off all that makes these islands a real tropical setting for people who come from nearby cold countries. Furthermore, a long term plan is needed to deal with the spiraling cost of visiting these isles that obviously is far more expensive than going to the Aloha State, among others.

Finally, while Guam and the Northern Marianas often appear in arts festivals and other events singing the same “Hafa Adai”, we ought veer from promoting sameness to something unique. Perhaps competition for theme and music ought to be promoted among local artists to see what we can come up with. Making these isles a unique experience takes just a little effort. Let’s do it! Si Yuus Maase`!
