As the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation improves the underground electric system and increases reliability for customers in Garapan, crews from Guam and Saipan will install Friday a new switch that controls the Park’s Electric System.

The installation involves very technical and dangerous splicing of high voltage that require special certified crews from Guam. The men cannot cut the wires with electricity flowing. Therefore, a power outage is necessary.

Electricity will first be interrupted for 15-20 minutes at 8:00 am throughout Garapan and again in the afternoon, while crews make the final connections, another 15-20 minutes outage will occur at four.

These two brief outage will affect residential and commercial customers in Garapan along both sides of Beach Road to the intersection of the Quartermaster Road and the Hyatt, Dai Ichi, and Victoria hotels.

Friday, January 12, 2001: Along Beach Road, Hyatt, Victoria, and Dai Ichi Hotels, 8:00 a.m. (15-20 mins.) & 4:00 p.m. (15-20 mins.)
