In the best of a 2 out of 3 semi final series to determine which two teams would play for the women’s world title in Rocball, it will be the Islanders, last year’s defending champs, playing the best 3 out of 5 series against the Covered Girls.

In the first series of play, it was the Islanders who won the right to go to the championship games by defeating the Carokese two games to one. The Covered Girls earned their right to challenge the Islanders by defeating the Chronics in two straight games.

In the games between the Islanders, which is made up mostly of veteran Rocball players, and the Carokese, a first year team of rookies, the Islanders suffered their first loss of the year. The Islanders failed in their attempt to properly close out four sets of play for a juice game. To win in juice, a team’s four set total score must be at least three more points than their opponents, and they must also win the fourth set before to juice-out with a victory.

The Carokese, trailing the Islanders by 20 points after three sets, prevented the Islanders from juicing out by winning the fourth set. The game was forced into O-kon where a team can win a set with ten points or a goal, which ever is scored first. How many sets in O-kon a team needs to win, is determined by how many sets a team lost in juice.

The Carokese lost three sets in juice and the Islanders only lost one. That made the Islanders a 3 to 1 favorite to win O-kon and the game. The Carokese needed to win three straight sets. If the Carokese would have lost any one set in O-kon, they would have lost the game. The Carokese won every set with a goal.

The Islanders came back and won games 2 and 3. But, the Carokese played hard and in the second game, forced the Islanders into O-kon again. Once again, the Carokese found themselves at a 3 to 1 disadvantage in O-kon. In O-kon, the Carokese won the first of the three sets they needed with a goal. However, in the second set of game two’s O-kon, it was the Islanders who scored a goal to win the set and game. Jennifer Somol of the Islanders was the games heavy hitter with 11 aces, 7 xunks, 6 kees, and 3 goals for a three game total of 54 points.

In the best two out of three semi-final games between the Covered Girls and Chronics, the Covered Girls defeated the Chronics in two games. In the first game, the Covered girls juiced out with a 59 to 30 win over the Chronics. In the second game, The Chronics who were trailing the Covered Girls by 8 points going into the fourth set, The Chronics won the fourth set, prevented the Covered Girls from juicing-out, and forced game two into O-kon.

In game two, the Covered Girls won the first and third sets, the Chronics won the second and fourth set. At the end of juice, it was the Covered Girls 43 and the Chronics 41. Each team won two sets in juice, neither team were able to juice-out, and each team needed to win two sets in O-kon to win the game. The Chronics won the first set in O-kon by points, 10 to 3. The Covered Girls came back and won the second set with a goal. And, in the third and final set of this O-kon, the Covered Girls scored a goal, won the set, the game, and the chance to challenge the Islanders in a best of 3 out of 5 series for women’s Rocball Championship. Sharma Iginoef of the Covered Girls was the series heavy hitter. Sharma scored 16 aces, 13 kees, and 2 goals for 64 points.
