Community spirit, family fun kindle Red Cross walkathon
For 14 years the Red Cross Walkathon has been a success, in large part due to the loyal Saipan community.
As the 15th annual Walkathon nears, the NMI chapter hopes to emphasize the humanitarian efforts of the Red Cross both on-island and worldwide, while maintaining the caliber of fundraising and family fun it has enjoyed in the past years.
All around the world and especially here in the Commonwealth, Red Cross wants the people to know that the organization is reverent to everyone whether it is learning how to save a life, learning how to prevent emergencies, or connecting loved ones in the US Armed Forces with their families.
The promise the Red Cross has made is that “We’ll Be There.” Spreading the word about its services is its one way of showing that is continues to keep this promise.
Through presentations scheduled in several schools, various government agencies and civic groups, the Red Cross is telling its story to the Commonwealth. And to thank the community for its continued support, the NMI chapter is offering a free First aid and CPR class on March 31.
The 15th Annual Walkathon is scheduled for April 21. It will be a 10K walk that begins and ends at Kilili Beach Park. Everyone who raises a minimum of $15 will receive a free T-shirt.
For more information on the event, please call chapter office at 234-3459. Businesses interested in co-sponsoring the event and becoming a friend of the Red Cross are also encouraged to call.
