Top seeds advance in Gov't league play-offs
The Inter-Government playoffs started Monday night with top seeded DCCA and CHC advancing to the second round of the play-offs by trouncing both opponents.
In the opener, DCCA used a balanced attack to rout Commerce, 101-60. Wayne Pua led the assault with 22 points, 13 rebounds, 6 assists, and 6 steals. Teammates Romeo Iginoef and Ando Benavente also contributed with 22 and 21 points respectively.
Steve Sablan led Commerce in a losing cause with a season high 35 points. The loss eliminated Commerce from the play-offs. While DCCA will face the winner of DOLI and DPS-Fire.
In the second game, CHC’s Quadriple towers was too much for Procurement to handle as they were out rebounded 62-32 enroute to an 82-45 victory.
CHC were led by Toni Raho’s 20 points, 20 rebounds performance, both season high. Reliable Dick “Doc” Brostrom also turned in another superb performance with 15 points and 16 rebounds, while Ernie Guillermo chipped with 19 points.
With the win, CHC advances to face the winner of NMC and Army Reserves next Tuesday.
In other games, PSS knocked DPW out the play offs with 66-43 advantage. Mark Rozic led the Educators with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Teammate Ryan Stewart chipped in with 14 points, 9 rebounds and 4 steals.
DPW was led by veterans Dave Camacho and John Guerrero with 14 and 10 points. In the late game, DLRS also advanced by defeating a pesky DEQ squad 85-70.
The game was tight for 3 quarters before back to back 3-pointers by both Steve Rasa and Peter Tomokane put the game out of reach. Steve Rasa led the victory with 35 points and 10 boards. DLRS moves on to face PSS in the second round.
