Computers for Philippine public schools
Pursuant to the thrust of the Philippine Government to make computer education accessible to public high school students all over the country, the Philippine Consulate General announced today the results of its campaign to solicit used but serviceable personal computers or PCs.
Given the crucial role of computers as well as their competent use in the information age, the “PCs for Public High School Project” was launched by the Philippine Government.
This project seeks to generate 50,000 personal computers for 4,445 non-science public high schools all over the country.
The donated PCs will be used in computer laboratories that will be established in public schools with the aim of augmenting the information technology resources of such schools, introduce the use of computers among students and promote the use of non-conventional teaching methods to facilitate the learning process.
As a presidential directive, Philippine foreign missions have been tasked to be at the vanguard of this project by contacting interested entities and individuals who may wish to donate their old but serviceable computer for a worthy cause.
According to the directive, the donations shall be consigned to the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) who will coordinate with the Department of Education, Culture and Sports (DECS) on the allocation of public high schools nationwide.
Among the donors in the CNMI are Bank of Hawaii, Construction Materials and Supplies Inc., Saipan Computer Services, Saipan Shipping, Century Insurance, Calvo’s Insurance and individuals like Justice David Wiseman, Mr. Nestor Allegre and Ms. Cecille Hipol.
In this regard, the Consulate General thanks the donors for their support. Their donations will go a long way in opening opportunities for educational and career development for these students.
