Hensley, Camacho top May Masters prelims
Youth bowler Jonathan Hensley and veteran kegler Diana Camacho knocked down the most number of pins to top the preliminary round of the May Masters Bowling Tournament held Friday and Saturday at the Saipan Bowling Center.
Hensley, who earlier this year bowled only the third perfect score in CNMI history, led the men’s division with 1,967 pinfalls. He knocked down 657 pins in the singles competition, 631 in the doubles match, and 679 in the team event.
Finishing second to Hensley in the men’s division was Mark Halstead, who rolled a pinfall total of 1,948 in the all-events, while Alex Cacdac (1,824), Richard P. Leong (1,790) and Ruselle Zapanta (1,789) complete the magic five. The top 36 scores in the singles, doubles, and team events advance to the 16-game masters tournaments for men.
Camacho, for her part, knocked down 531 in the singles, 528 in the doubles, and 567 in the team competition to wound up with a score of 1,626 pinfalls in the all-events.
She was followed by Lucy Guerrero, who finished with 1,564, while Cathy Villanueva (1,526), Emi Williams (1,515), and Vivian Cruz (1.497) make up the top five. The top 24 scores in the all-events advance to the 16-game masters tournaments for women.
In the men’s singles, Jess Rebusada and Mike Guirey finished tied with identical three-game totals of 668 pinfalls. Louie Dimla finished in solo third after knocking down 660 pins, while Jonathan Hensley and Efren Puse ranked fourth and fifth with 657 and 650 pinfalls, respectively.
In the doubles, the Dynamic Duo of Mark Halstead and Jonathan Hensley ruled the roost after combining to roll a score of 1,278. Guam’s Jay Leon Guerrero and Jonathan Duenas copped second place with 1,245 pinfalls, while Alex Cacdac and Noel Sicat finished in third place after firing a 1,232.
In the team event, Joe Sablan, Robert Talavera, Jack Cruz, and Mark Halstead claimed the win after scoring a total of 2,423 pinfalls. Two teams finished with identical scores of 2,351 and finished tied in second place.
For the women, Fely Mandapat topped the singles with 588 pinfalls in three games. Lucy Guerrero and Diana Camacho followed suit with 562 and 531, respectively.
The pair of Emi Williams and Diana Camacho won the doubles event after combining for 1,086 pinfalls. The pair of Fely Mandapat and Kathy Villanueva finished second after knocking down 1,072 pins, while Rizza Hensley and Lucy Guerrero wound up third with a score of 1,045.
In the women’s team event, Cindy Iginoef, Carol McKenzie, Rosalinda Cal, and Becky Reyes finished with the highest pinfall total with 1,995.
