A vessel in distress was rescued by the Boating Safety section of the Department of Public Safety last Tuesday afternoon.
The vessel was being operated by 36-year-old Conbin Taisacan. Passengers included 35-year-old Hank Williams and 36-year-old Froilan Wabol.
According to the police report, the DPS dispatched Boating Safety personnel at about 5:27pm to a reported distressed vessel located three miles northwest of the Nikko Hotel area.
The crew, composed of BSS officers James Omar, Noberto Pua, and Jesse Angui, responded to the distress call aboard police vessel Zodiac III and found the vessel approximately two miles northwest of Nikko Hotel. All occupants were found to be in good condition, and their vessel was towed back to the Smiling Cove Marina, arriving at 7:11pm.
BSS investigation showed that the distressed vessel left Fishing Base and headed north to 300 Reef for a fishing trip. The vessel then headed to Malakes Reef, where at about 4:30pm, its engine died and could not be restarted. Taisacan reportedly called Civil Defense and asked for help.
The vessel was inspected and found to be in violation of the law for failing to display its numbers. An active citation was issued to the violator.
