All set for NMC Foundation Open
A total of 89 players have so far signed up for this weekend’s 2nd Annual NMC Foundation Open to be held at the Kingfisher Golf Links.
Each of the players entered would have a chance to match strokes with golf legend Bruce Devlin, who will enter the tournament as a special guest player.
Devlin, coincidentally, would hold a golf clinic this afternoon from 1pm to 4pm at the Kingfisher Golf Links. The eight-time PGA Tour champion arrived last night and is set to make a course inspection this morning.
The mere presence of Devlin in the event has single-handedly brought in off-island players from neighboring Guam as well as Hong Kong and Japan to the tournament.
Aside from some 20 off-island golfers, the NMC Foundation Open has also attracted the best and the brightest from local golf clubs like the Refaluwasch Golf Association, Fil-Taga Golfers Association, and the Saipan Golf Association.
The NMC Foundation Open will kick off tomorrow and run through Sunday. First tee time is set at 6:30am.
It features competition in six flights – Championship (0-8 handicap), A (9-13), B (14-18), C (19-up), Women’s and Seniors. First place is guaranteed $400 in cash and a roundtrip ticket, runner-up gets $350, while third place takes home $250.
Hole-in-one prizes up for grabs include a 2005 Mitsubshi Outlander, a 2005 Nissan Altima, and a 2004 Toyota Rav4.
The golf tourney concludes with an awards banquet on the evening of June 27 at the Hyatt Regency Saipan.
Organizers said those not yet registered could still join the event provided they arrive at the golf course no later than 7:30am tomorrow. Price for entry is $175.
The golf clinic with personalized lessons from Devlin, meanwhile, ranges from $60 for a one-hour session, $100 for two hours, and $200 for a three-hour clinic.
