Airport 8K, Veterans Day 5K this Saturday

Run Saipan’s 2nd Annual Saipan International Airport 8K Trail Race ’23 & 5K Veteran’s Day Run is set for this Saturday at 6am at the Continental Road near the United Cargo.

Enjoy the scenic view of runway 06/07 and runway 24/25 from the perimeter line and view aircrafts landing and taking off.

Run Saipan president Edward Dela Cruz Jr. said there’s no difference for this year’s course. “It serves as the adult cross country championship for the year partnered with the Commonwealth Ports Authority and the Northern Marianas Athletics.”

He added, “The 5K is redubbed the Veterans Day 5k since it falls on the holiday and we would like to honor our veterans and for those who do not wish to run the full 8K.”

Dela Cruz said for those who will run the 8K, they are awarding the Top 3 in the age divisions below: open and master’s age divisions from 35-49, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, and 60+.

For the 5K race, only the Top 3 male and female will be awarded medals.

There are no prizes this year as they only had them in the inaugural race last year.

There is also no student age group this year. “We had the PSS All Schools Cross Country for them. This is the big leagues for the adults to be honored and recognized, said Dela Cruz.

Dela Cruz then thanked CPA “for continuing this iconic race around our beautiful airport and to NMA for partnering another year of our adult cross country championship.”

Last year’s 5K accidental winners were Jericho Tobias at 51:21 and Anastasia Dela Cruz—along with baby Sasha in a stroller—with a time of 53:44, as the top runners made mistakes on the turnaround.

For the 8K portion, Paul Timm came in first overall with a time of 36:39 and Denise Myers was first in the women’s division with a time of 37:23.
