Another guided-missile destroyer arriving on Saipan today

A guided-missile destroyer in the U.S. Navy, USS Shoup, and its crew will be visiting Saipan today, Friday.

Gov. Arnold I. Palacios disclosed in an interview yesterday that they are going to welcome 350 Navy personnel at the Saipan Seaport’s Charlie Dock this morning, Friday.

“They want to join us. I want to say welcome to the CNMI. I will be down there,” Palacios said.

USS Shoup is named for Medal of Honor recipient Gen. David M. Shoup, the 22nd commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps. Its homeport is Yokosuka, Japan.

Last July 3, Palacios and Lt. Gov. David M. Apatang welcomed the captain and crew of the USS John Finn, a guided-missile destroyer that made a port call on Saipan.

Palacios stated that they continue to welcome members of U.S. military to Saipan and wants to see more of these visits.
