BASA league starts, donates $500 to DMS

The 2024 master’s and women’s division of the Budweiser Belau Amateur Softball Association had its opening pitch last Sunday, and prior to that, donated $500 to Dandan Middle School.

The donation, which BASA also did last year, is for showing their appreciation to the school, which is adjacent to the field they play their softball games in. BASA president Leo Bobai, vice president McQueen Masaharu, secretary Elsie Ngewakl, and Timberley Ngewakl turned over the check to DMS principal James Sablan.

This season, there are 10 men’s teams—Man Amigos, Tokahao, Team Sufa, Saipal, Hagu La’mun, Team Redmen, Peliliu, Team Asahi, Tuturamz, and Team Wazzup. In the women’s division, there are six—Lady Blue Jays, Bat & Boujee, Boleras, 670 Magas Babes, Team BDE, and Lady Sufa.

In men’s results last Sunday, the first game went to Man Amigos, who won over Team Wazzup, 8-4.

Man Amigos’ Mark Toves, Joey Dela Cruz, and Manny Sablan all scored in the first inning off a three-RBI homer by Sablan.

Team Wazzup could not make contact with pitches made by Man Amigos’ Jerry Deleon Guerrero, and they went scoreless until the fourth inning, when Cris George, Derek Aguon, and Eric Kani made it a 3-5 game.

Man Amigos still had the upper hand as a run scored in the fifth inning, and two runs came in the last inning from a home run by Eric Palacios and an RBI single by Deleon Guerrero.

Only one more run came for Wazzup and they said adios to the Amigos when they couldn’t tie or take the lead before the game ended.

In other results, Hagu La’mun defeated Team Redmen, 12-4, off a productive third and fifth inning when Hagu La’mun brought in the majority of their runs.

Peliliu then handed Saipal their first loss, 18-7, in a run-mercy ruled game; Team Asahi beat Team Sufa in a low-scoring 6-2 game; and Tokahao blew Tuturamz out of the field, 17-3.

Results of the women’s division will be posted in the next issues of Saipan Tribune.
