Blue Haus, JSN win makeup games

Blue Haus and JSN won their makeup games in the Inaugural SMEC-SMLEG Invitational Basketball Tournament 2023 last Saturday at the Gualo Rai Basketball Court.

Blue Haus won both of their makeup games against Vizion, 83-79, and San Antonio Market-Lakay, 80-61.

With their wins, Blue Haus is the second seed in the masters division with a 6-1 record behind undefeated A Plus Team-Saipan Marine Corp.

In their game against Vizion, Blue Haus’ starting five and bench rotation went mano-a-mano for a fight to the finish. It was a give and take in the last quarter despite a big lead by Blue Haus in the first half.

Vizion managed to slow down Blue Haus’ offense and tried to mount a comeback with back-to-back shots by Fradel Sedillo and Dindo Pablo. It was anyone’s game in the final minutes but a clutch three-pointer by Blue Haus’ Melvin Capalad and a field goal by Junar Guiab stole the close win from Vizion.

Blue Haus’ Tony Diaz made 19 points, Richard Peredo put up 18 markers, and Brendon Talania collected 15 points. Meanwhile, Vizion’s Jeff Galvez had a game high 21 markers, and Pablo assisted with 16.

JSN also won against Vizion, 77-65, but lost to Legends, 67-65.

In their game against JSN, Vizion was once again at the cusp of making a comeback but was ultimately shut down at the last quarter.

JSN had a big second quarter lead, 40-27, despite trailing by 1, 16-17, in the first quarter, but Vizion didn’t give up and tried to close the gap by just 13 points at the end of the third quarter. However, JSN’s Jhun Tabora tore through the paint and had a game-high 25 points and dashed Vizion’s hope for a comeback.

Jawn Joyner was right behind him with 12 points, while Bernard Montano had 9 markers. For Vizion, Rodney Catalla tried to lead them with his 18 points to no avail, while Leo Itaas made do with 8 points.

In the last makeup game of the regular season, Priority Care conceded to Easy Riders when they didn’t show up in the continuation of their game last Sunday.

The playoffs were set to begin this week, but due to the Tropical Storm Bolaven it has been postponed until further notice.
