Braves no-hits Blue Jays, 8-0

The Braves rolled out a combined no-hitter against the Blue Jays to win, 8-0, in the 2024 Tan Holdings-SBL last Tuesday at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field.

Braves pitchers Aaron Camacho, Keoni Serrano, and Angelo Igitol combined for the first no-hitter of the season over the Blue Jays for their second win in as many games.

Young gun Camacho, who is only 16, was the starter that stoked the fire for an eventual no-hitter. Heater after heater rejected Blue Jay batters, with only two reaching base from walks in the first inning. The Blue Jays couldn’t capitalize and left them on base as Camacho registered three outs.

Meanwhile, the Braves will not be silenced themselves as they scored five runs in the first for a 5-0 lead. Blue Jays errors and the Braves’ hot bats were contributing factors as Joel Borja, Achilles Evangelista, Josenio Alvarez, Vicente Camacho, and Jylon Sablan rounded the bases to get them on board.

Blue Jays pitchers tried to hold them down and minimize the damage as the Braves went scoreless from the second to the fourth inning. However, Braves’ offense picked up again in the fifth with another run scored by Sablan and Igitol for a 7-0 game.

At this point, a no-hitter was a looming reality after the Blue Jays were retired in order in the second and third. There was only one threat in the Braves’ spotless game as in the fifth inning, a defensive mishap allowed Adam Salalila to reach third base after he was walked.

But Braves pitching and defense went on to recover and the Blue Jays wasted a runner in scoring position. Then, Evangelista scored their 8th run in the sixth for an 8-0 Braves lead.

The Blue Jays then fell via strikeouts in the last inning, while Benji Palacios was the only other runner who reached first from base on balls.

Last Wednesday, the game between the Padres and Bears was suspended to a later date due to rain.
