Businesses conduct cleanup on beach along Beach Road

A group of businesses conducted a cleanup on the stretch of beach from Quartermaster Road in Chalan Laulau up to the Atkins Kroll intersection in Oleai last Aug. 17.

P&A Corp. vice president and Pacific Eco Laundry president Doyi Kim said a total of 25 participants took part in the bimonthly cleanup and the group was able to fill three garbage bags full of trash.

“During the cleanup, we found several types of garbage, with some items being more common than others. The most frequently collected items were plastic bottles, which show how much single-use plastic ends up as litter. Cigarette butts were also found, indicating that many people still improperly dispose of them,” she said.

Kim said additionally, snack packaging such as wrappers and bags was commonly picked up by the group, which reflects the impact of casual littering on the beach.

“These items not only spoil the beauty of the area but also harm the environment and wildlife,” she said.

Kim then extended her heartfelt appreciation to the departments and individuals from the group of companies that participated in this beach cleanup initiative.

“Their efforts made this event a success. Special thanks go to the employees from Winners Hardware, Winners Gas, Pacific Eco Laundry, the technical department, MMHC Slaughterhouse, and DKK Construction, led by Mr. Joo Ho Joon and Mr. Lee Dae Il. I also want to recognize the three teens who joined us—their enthusiasm was truly inspiring.”

Lastly, she said P&A Corp., DKK Inc., Marianas Meat Harvesting Corp., and Pacific Eco Laundry reaffirms their ongoing commitment to the community by organizing regular beach clean-up activities around the island.

“These efforts are vital in preserving the natural beauty of our island’s beaches and ensuring a cleaner environment for future generations. We look forward to continuing this important work together and encourage all members of our community to join us in these efforts,” she said. (Saipan Tribune)
