CGC hosts Naloxone Training of Trainers

In partnership with the Opioid Response Network, the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp.’s Community Guidance Center hosted the Naloxone Training of Trainers on Sept. 5, 2024. The training was facilitated by Heather Lusk of the Hawaii Health and Harm Reduction Center.

With full support by the CHCC CEO Dr. Esther L. Muna, the first cohort of the training included CHCC staff, local partners from the Department of Public Safety, Department of Corrections, Department of Fire & Emergency Services, Division of Customs and Biosecurity, Substance Abuse, Addiction, and Rehabilitation-HOPE Recovery Center, Office of Adult Probation, Mental Health and Drug Court, Department of Community and Cultural Affairs, and federal partners from the U.S. Homeland Security Investigations and Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Subsequent trainings in the upcoming months will be delivered to CHCC personnel, behavioral health partners, and stakeholders on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota.

In an effort to build local workforce capacity and readiness to prevent the opioid epidemic from devastating the CNMI community, a total of 35 trainers are certified to train others within their agencies and community members on how to administer the life-saving medication for individuals experiencing an opioid overdose.
