CNMI SPJ to host delegate forum on Aug. 17

The CNMI Society of Professional Journalists will host a delegate forum at 1pm on Saturday, Aug. 17.

All five candidates running for CNMI delegate have confirmed their participation—Democrat Edwin K. Propst, Republican Kimberlyn King-Hind, and independent candidates James Rayphand, John Oliver Gonzales, and Liana Hofschneider.

The forum will be streamed live on the CNMI Society of Professional Journalists Facebook page. CNMI SPJ will not host a live audience due to capacity.

The forum will cover national politics, the economy, and the military. The forum will begin with a 1-minute opening statement from each candidate, then will transition to the first category about national politics where everyone will have 2 minutes to respond to the same question. The economy and military rounds will feature questions where each candidate will answer a question for 2 minutes and other candidates can respond for 30 seconds. The forum will end with a 3-minute closing statement from all candidates.

CNMI SPJ encourages a healthy and civil discussion for the community to learn about each candidate. CNMI SPJ was recently re-established after 30 years. Its members represent all local media: Marianas Variety, Saipan Tribune, KSPN2 News, KUAM News, and NMI News Service. The Society of Professional Journalists promotes the free flow of information vital to a well-informed citizenry through the daily work of its roughly 6,000 members nationwide. (PR)
