CNMI’s DNC delegate bets back Biden
The Democratic Party of the Northern Mariana Islands issued a call for delegate candidates who would represent the party at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago in August, and NMI Democrats answered the call.
Six NMI Democrats submitted their delegate candidacy forms and will appear on the ballot in the DPNMI Presidential Primary beginning on March 5, 2024, and ending on March 12. The six candidates for delegate are Nola Kileleman Hix, Shawna Evangelista Indalecio, Joan Flores Reyes, Leila Fleming Staffler, Angelo Villagomez, and Stephen C. Woodruff. All these delegates have pledged their support to incumbent President Joe Biden.
“Emerging from the pandemic shadows, I am excited to finally get a chance to cast my vote in person at the Democratic National Convention this August. In this ever-evolving political climate, everyone must participate to ensure our collective voice is heard,” said Staffler.
The Democratic Party of the Northern Mariana Islands will host its Presidential Primary on March 5-12 on the islands of Saipan, Tinian, and Rota. The primaries will be the first step in the CNMI’s participation in this nationwide process, and during this time, not only will Democrats elect their presidential nominee, they will also elect delegates to attend the 2024 Democratic National Convention, which will take place on Aug. 19-22, 2024, in Chicago, Illinois. The national convention will nominate the Democratic Party’s candidates for President and Vice President of the United States of America.
Democrats and registered NMI voters who would like to participate in next month’s primary are encouraged to get out and vote. Democrats, registered voters, and individuals who will be eligible to vote on or before Nov. 5, 2024, will be able to visit designated polling sites and cast their vote for their Democratic presidential candidate of choice and for their preferred delegates.
