CPA receiving $4.5M grant for Rota airport roof replacement
The Commonwealth Ports Authority is receiving $4.5 million that will be used to replace the steel roof and structural support elements of the Benjamin Taisacan Manglona International Airport on Rota, according to Delegate Gregorio Kilili C. Sablan (D-MP) over the weekend.
Sablan said in his e-kilili newsletter that the Federal Aviation Administration had announced Thursday that CPA is getting the Airport Terminals Program grant funding that will fund the replacement of the existing terminal roof, which measures approximately 11,380 square feet, including portions of the structural elements (footings, columns, beams, slabs) and associated modifications.
Sablan said the Airport Terminals Program, created by the 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, provides competitive grants for airport terminal development projects that address the aging infrastructure of the nation’s airport.
The FAA is awarding a total of $970 million, including the $4.5 million for CPA, from President Biden’s bipartisan Investing in America agenda to 114 airports across the country, spanning 44 states and three other territories.
U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said in FAA’s announcement that, under the Biden-Harris administration, they are doing more to improve the travel experience than ever before, from expanding consumer protections to modernizing the physical infrastructure.
Buttigieg said these investments, made possible by Biden’s historic infrastructure package, will make it easier for passengers to get to and through airports, create jobs and increase safety for all.
