CUC, NMTech establish new partnership

The Commonwealth Utilities Corp. and Northern Marianas Technical Institute have formalized their commitment to collaborative educational initiatives through a memorandum of understanding signing.

Last July 17, CUC and NMTech held an MOU signing at the NMTech campus to officiate their commitment to collaborating with one another in terms of educational initiatives.

The MOU paves the way for enhanced opportunities for individuals seeking hands-on experience in trades.

Among those present at the MOU signing were CUC Human Resources manager Francisco Matsunaga Jr. and NMTech chief executive officer Jodina Attao.

The event was attended by CUC and NMTech staff, underscoring this partnership’s collaborative spirit.

Under this agreement, NMTech will allow students to intern at various CUC facilities, where they will gain practical insights and valuable skills in utility operations, contributing to the growth of employment in trades.

“The official signing of the MOU between the Northern Marianas Technical Institute and the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. marks a significant milestone in fostering practical experience alongside academic learning,” said Attao.

Matsunaga, for his part, said CUC is delighted to formalize its partnership with NMTech.

“This partnership underscores the importance of bridging educational theory with real-world application, preparing students for the dynamic demands of their future careers. By linking NMTech’s educational programs with hands-on experience provided by industry leaders like the Commonwealth Utilities Corp., this collaboration ensures that students gain valuable insights and skills directly relevant to their fields. Such initiatives are crucial in developing a skilled workforce to drive innovation and contribute to the region’s economic growth,” he said.

Matsunaga added that this collaboration highlights CUC’s commitment to nurturing local talent and preparing the next generation of professionals in the utilities sector.

“Through internships and hands-on training, students can apply classroom knowledge in real-world settings, preparing them for successful careers. This partnership is expected to enrich educational offerings and contribute to the overall development of skilled professionals in the CNMI. Both organizations are committed to promoting innovation, sustainability, and excellence in the utilities sector through collaborative efforts and practical training opportunities,” he said.
