Cabrera, Lian are top Hopwood promotees

As they head into summer and transition from middle school to high school, 209 Hopwood Middle School promotees gathered with their friends and family during their promotion ceremony yesterday morning at their campus in Chalan Piao.

Evan McLaren Carlo Paras Cabrera was named the valedictorian of HMS Class of 2024. He also received the Board of Education Academic Excellence Award which was presented by BOE acting chair Maisie B. Tenorio and BOE member Andrew Orsini.

The salutatorian was Steven Lian and he was also the recipient of the Commissioner of Education Academic Excellence Award.

The Principal’s Leadership Award went to Ricky Tang.

Cabrera, along with being the top promotee, was also named the Best Male Athlete and was presented the Athlete of the Year Award. The Best Female Athlete was awarded to Paulette Erin Borja Somol.

For HMS, there was no Top 10, and instead, presented “Best in Subject’ awards.

Best in English Language Arts went to Cabrera and Leelando Meng Backman.

Lian and Yong Jun Lin received the Best in Mathematics Award.

Tang and Lian were the recipients of the Best in Science Award.

For the Best in Social Studies, the award went to Cabrera and Alexandria Evangelista Asuncion.

Cabrera also grabbed the Best in Chamorro Carolinian Language & Heritage Studies (CCLHS), along with Toby Yan.

Lin and Lian received the Best in Middle School Leadership Corps Award.

Lin and Lian also received the Best in Physical Education Award.

Best in CTE-Computer Literacy III went to Cabrera and Alexis Danielle Manaloto Salundaguit.

Lastly, in Best in CTE-Agriculture, the award went to Cabrera and Jazzmine Reyes Apasan.

The theme of the ceremony was, “Your success is only determined by the amount of effort and commitment you decide to put into everything you choose to do” by HMS principal, Victor Cabrera.

The welcoming remarks were made by HMS principal Victor Cabrera, while Tenorio delivered the BOE congratulatory remarks. Education Commissioner Dr. Lawrence F. Camacho then gave his COE congratulatory remarks.
