Capitol Hill tennis court to be striped for pickleball

The Pickleball Federation of the Northern Mariana Islands will finally have a dedicated pickleball court with the resurfacing of the tennis court on Capitol Hill for that purpose.

“This is the most exciting announcement I have shared with you since we striped the courts at the American Memorial Park. We have been working toward dedicated pickleball courts for quite a while, and our efforts are beginning to bear fruit. The Saipan Mayor’s Office and Division of Parks and Recreation are letting us resurface the old tennis court into four dedicated pickleball courts. We are seeking bids for resurfacing the court, new fencing, and new lighting. These courts will be the place to play on Saipan!” said PFNMI president Nelson Krum in an email to members.

He added that Triple J Saipan has committed money for the resurfacing project and that PFNMI is looking for other sponsors for the lights and fence. The Northern Mariana Sports Association has also committed some money toward the lights.

“Please thank Sean Ficke (Triple J Motors general manager) for his work with Triple J, the Saipan Mayor’s Office, and Parks and Recreation! Teamwork makes the dream work,” said Krum.

To this end, Krum said the Saipan Mayor’s Office has scheduled the formal announcement for the dedicated pickleball courts on Capitol Hill for July 19 at 2pm. The ceremony will take place at the court behind the baseball field on Capitol Hill.

He said no less than Saipan Mayor Ramon B. “RB” Camacho will grace the occasion.

“We want a strong turnout of our members to show support, and we will have some of the membership playing on the existing courts.”
