Chamber commends Palacios for initiating Section 902 talks
The Saipan Chamber of Commerce commends Gov. Arnold I. Palacios for writing to President Joseph R. Biden Jr. on April 26, 2024 to initiate consultations between the CNMI and the U.S. pursuant to Section 902 of the CNMI-U.S. Covenant. This important first step demonstrates Palacios’ commitment to addressing critical issues affecting the relationship between the CNMI and the United States.
The Chamber is in full support of the governor’s list of priority issues which include direct financial assistance; tourism and infrastructure; and access to skilled labor.
“Similar to past Section 902 consultations, the Chamber stands ready to support Gov. Palacios and the CNMI delegation, including House and Senate leaders,” said Chamber president Joe C. Guerrero.
At a recent meeting, the Chamber board of directors unanimously commended Palacios and affirmed its commitment to working with his administration to advocate for CNMI interests to ensure that our community’s needs and aspirations are effectively presented.
“We strongly believe that engagement with the United States through Section 902 will bring significant benefits to our islands, fostering economic development, improving infrastructure, and enhancing the overall quality of life for all our residents. As a collective voice of the business community, the Chamber is excited and looks forward to working with Gov. Palacios toward achieving meaningful outcomes for our Marianas,” added Guerrero.
The Saipan Chamber of Commerce is a CNMI non-profit organization consisting of over 120 members from various industries and all business sizes. SCC serves its members as a resource and advocate enhancing the quality of business and life on Saipan. (PR)
