Corry claims Expert Class win in May

Corry Pangelinan won his second monthly Expert Class race of the 2024 “MOTO IV” Points Race Series after topping last Sunday’s competition at the Cowtown Race Park in Marpi.

The 19-year-old Saipan Sunset Cruise and Saipan Sea Cruise staff nosed out defending Expert Class yearly champion Shane “Pikaboo” Alvarez to top the division, 47-43 points.

Pangelinan took Heat 1 after Alvarez sustained a flat tire that dropped him to fourth place. The latter would zoom past the former in Heat 2 but it wasn’t enough as Pangelinan ultimately took the checkered flag.

“The track conditions were okay it was just really dry, making it hard to see when someone is in front of you. I’d like to dedicate this win to my family for always supporting me and most especially to my uncle Ponce and aunty Marissa Rasa for lending me their bike. If it wasn’t for their kind heart, I wouldn’t have raced and missed out on points,” he said.

Pangelinan also thanked the ERICCO Racing Team, Inas Kitchen, YCO True Value, 670 Rock Steady Shop, TurnKey Solutions, and the tent donation from House Speaker Edmund Villagomez (Ind-Saipan) and Reps. Malcom Omar (Ind-Saipan), Marissa Flores (Ind-Saipan), and Diego Camacho (D-Saipan).

Marianas Racing Association president Ellery Cruz and former MRA president Charles Cepeda finished third and fourth with 42 points and 38 points, respectively.

In the Veterans Class, Justis “Cuki” Alvarez won anew with a perfect 50 points, followed by Champi Villacanes’ 44 points and Melvin Cepeda’s 40 points.

In the Novice Class, Melvin Cepeda ruled the roost with also a perfect 50 points. Ponce Rasa was second with his 42 points with Matthew Guerrero running third with his 40 points.
