DPS, DOC need help in ID’ing contraband thrower

Both the Department of Public Safety and the Department of Corrections are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the person in a series of released images from DPS surrounding the case of contraband being thrown into the DOC’s recreational space.

The images were released last Friday after a mysterious figure was reportedly spotted tossing contraband over the DOC’s fence during inmates’ recreation time last May 15. The incident prompted swift response from DOC and DPS, but despite the search efforts, the individual remains unidentified, leaving DOC and DPS urging the community for assistance.

DOC Commissioner Anthony Torres earlier described the person of interest as male, around 5’5 to 5’8, between 100 lbs. to 200 lbs., with medium-tanned skin, and short wavey hair. In addition, the suspect was last seen wearing a blue turquoise shirt with a light-brown long sleeve camouflage jacket, dark colored shorts, and slippers.

Torres emphasized the seriousness of the offense under the newly implemented contraband law. Additionally, he revealed the dismissal of two DOC personnel for similar offenses, highlighting the enforcement of the law’s consequences. DPS Commissioner Anthony Macaranas assured the public of thorough investigation and subsequent prosecution by the Office of the Attorney General once the case concludes.

Both DPS and DOC are requesting the public assistance in identifying the individual, as the man is now wanted for questioning in reference to the DOC contraband smuggling incident.
