DPS on the hunt for Edward Castro

The Department of Public Safety is seeking the community’s help in locating Edward Castro, who is believed to be involved in a burglary and theft incident where about $126,000 worth of personal property were stolen.

The Department of Public Safety issued a statement yesterday seeking the community’s assistance in locating Castro, who is allegedly involved in a burglary and theft incident at a residence on Capital Hill last Jan. 19.

The DPS statement said that an arrest warrant was issued on Feb. 6, 2024, against Castro, who is charged with burglary, theft, and receiving stolen property. Bail is set at $50,000. The warrant was signed by Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho.

It was not immediately clear how the police came to identify Castro as a person of interest in the Capital Hill burglary.

According to assistant Chief of Police Simon Manacop, the arrest warrant stems from a burglary and theft incident that occurred at a residence on Capital Hill that was reported on Jan 19 at around 6:22am.

“The victim of this incident reported that cash, jewelry, designer bags, and assorted electronics were stolen and that the approximate value combined was $126,000,” he said.

Manacop said DPS is urging anyone who may have any information on Castro’s whereabouts, or even information related to the burglary and theft incident, to call the DPS Criminal Investigation Bureau at (670) 664-9042, DPS headquarters at (670) 664-9001, or the Crime Stoppers hotline at (670) 234-7272 if they wish to remain anonymous.

DPS is also seeking the community’s help in locating a missing person, Jesus Pinaula Rios.

Rios is a 67-year-old male residing in Finasisu who was last seen on Feb. 5.

According to reports, Rios was last seen at about 12pm by a family member who witnessed him go outside the home to smoke.

“Rios remains missing. CIB detectives are canvassing neighbors and nearby establishments. DPS has requested assistance from the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services for their search and rescue unit to assist in the search operation. At this point, there is no indication to suggest any criminal offense associated with the disappearance,” said Manacop.
